Now, we know there are lotsa swindles in China. My mum, being the gullible and naive woman she always is, was not spared from getting cheated.
They (Mum & Sis) were in front of a stall. This guy was giving commands to a wooden figurine. A wooden dunno-what rather. Let's call it a wooden-something.
Conman:
"站起来。"
(The wooden-something 'stood' up)
Conman:
"坐下来。"
(The wooden-something 'sat' down)
Now now readers, please be reminded that all these while, the conman was pulling some strings from below the table. Simply to say, they are not voice-activated.
My super gullible mum, not suspecting anything, asked
"它听得懂英文吗？"
She DID buy the thing in the end -.-ll
